It is with great sadness that we report the passing of long-time NCHM instructor and colleague, Carrie Tietjen. Carrie was 51 years old at the time of her passing. She is survived by her daughter, Nicole, son, Alex, her grandson Theo (Nicole’s son), and her sister and fellow NCHM instructor, Jennifer Marchand.
Carrie was a passionate advocate for affordable housing and a well-regarded instructor. Her expertise and engaging presentation style earned her high marks from those who attended her courses, whether in-person or online. In addition to teaching, Carrie oversaw the NCHM e-hotline, coordinating the answering of thousands of questions annually from NCHM-certified housing professionals. She also contributed to the development and updating of NCHM course materials covering a broad range of topics.
Carrie was the most upbeat, optimistic person, even when facing the most difficult of obstacles. She battled through health issues for many years but never let that stop her from living her life, both personally and professionally. Carrie often spoke of her love for her job, her colleagues and NCHM, and we loved her back. She will be dearly missed.
